The Jennings Company - Dorothy Vernon

A sweet little bottle in the original box by the Jennings Co. of Grand Rapids USA. Only 9cm high.

But who was Dorothy Vernon?

Dorothy Vernon lived in Elizabethan England (the mid 1500s) and apparently eloped with John Manners the son of an impoverished Earl much to her fathers anger.  He was a Protestant and she Catholic.

In 1902 a novel entitled Dorothy Vernon of Haddon Hall by Charles Major became one of the most popular novels of the year.  Following the success of the novel a movie featuring Mary Pickford in the title role was released in 1924.  This bottle probably dates from around the time the film was released.
